Thing 23 : c'est la fin...

Thank you!

What a web experience! I have learned a lot and discovered useful “Things” to exploit for the library but also for me. I really enjoyed playing around with IGoogle – there are so many gadgets and applications (Google reader, google doc …) that I am sure will continue to use.
One of the thing I really like about this program is that we have been introduce to all these applications in a enjoyable way and now we know how to use them. It up to us now to see which one we are incline to use and explore more.

I second Aurelia when she says bring on 24-48!!

Thing 21&22

I added the Flick photostream in my blog. I really like the fact that a lot of the applications we are using are in a certain extend linked together. I have added my delicious to igoogle – very easy to do!

Thing 19&20

I created a Google document and sent it to Robert. It is very easy and straightforward to use. The same for Thinkfree Office. I signed in through my goggle account and after installing Java on my computer, I was able to use it.

Thing 17&18

Explore Wiki: I went on the web 2.0 wiki and explored the website. It has good basic information on the web 2.0 applications. I have listed St Hugh’s Library in the directory of Oxford libraries using web 2.0.
Wikipedia: I use it quite often to find quick answers to my daily life questions: does fish emit C02, Who exactly was Papillon (Henri Charriere), why some people call sweet potatoes yams… I found it very useful as a first step of search but if I want more details and accurate information I will certainly not be satisfy by only using Wikipedia but will surely be using other websites and books!

Thing 15&16

Twitter: I created an account on Twitter. I spent time following people’s tweets and also library institutions. I am very impressed with the number of institutions that are using Twitter to pass on information and links.

Thing 13&14

Things 13&14: Facebook- I am already a member. I use it more for my social networking. We have a facebook library page at St Hugh’s. Our readers can contact us, leave comments, and renew their books through the page. They also can find links to Solo, JSTOR, LibraryThing, etc. It is an attractive way to communicate with them and let them know what is going on in their library without being too formal about it.
LinkedIn - I have signed up and created a profile. I am not sure how useful this would be. But I can see how this kind of professional network system could be good for job hunting and professional networking.

Thing 11&12

I have put BCC radio programmes on my Google Reader. I also look at what the university offers in terms of podcasts and I was quiet surprised to be able to listen to courses, fellow’s interviews…good thing to know.
Regarding YouTube, I am quite familiar with the application.

Thing 9&10

We already have a delicious account for the library. I spend some time looking at other libraries network and added them in our network.

Thing 7&8

I have now a Flickr account. Usually I use facebook to share pictures but Flickr seems to have more options to edit and share albums. With Laura, we went around our library and took some pictures of, periodicals, cardboard catalogue and St Hugh and his Swan. I put them in the 23 things group and tagged them as St Hugh’s Library. Also, I have sign up to Picnik and play around with one of my St Hugh’s pictures.

Thing 5&6

I have subscribed to Google Reader and added RSS feeds. Most of them are newspapers from different countries – that would allow me to follow the news in England, France and Belgium in the same time.

Thing 3&4

Thing 3&4: creating my blog. I am now part of 23 thing oxford community. I took time to read some blogs. Some of them are very impressive, with great information and pictures. I will have to catch up now.

23 things: learn, create, imagine, discover. I would like to learn how to use these applications that I often hear about, more or less understand but never really exploit them.

Web 2.0. : I am very enthusiastic about all this ways of communicating and sharing information or just being in touch with other professional institutions or people. My only apprehension with these web applications is to have too many accounts and never use them.

Thing 1&2

Exploring IGoogle. I have added up new tools and created my own tab with different practical and funny gadgets that I am more likely to use. I used it at home too and really like the fact to have all these web functions in the same page!
